Venezuelan, others busted with unlicensed gun

A female Venezuelan national, who is in Guyana illegally, is in the custody of the police, after she and two other persons were caught with an unlicensed pistol and five live rounds.
According to a police report, at about 12:00 hrs Sunday at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint, a search was carried out on the vehicle they were travelling in when the items were found. Police say they are cooperating with investigators.
Meanwhile, police also reported that at about 13:45 hrs on Saturday, ranks were conducting a river patrol in the Mazaruni River when they arrested a 53-year-old miner of Fifth Avenue, Bartica.
A search of his vessel in the vicinity of the Arawai Resort revealed 506 grams of cannabis. He is being processed for court.
