Teen killed, friend critical in Corentyne accident

A teenager is now dead and his friend is in a critical condition at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after they were struck down by a speeding car on Sunday, September 17 on the #55 Village Public Road Corentyne.

The teen has been identified as 19-year-old Tristan Sohai of #57 Village while his injured friend has been identified as 28-year-old Mooneshwar Jairam, also of the same community.

News Room understands that the accident took place at about 20:30hrs and the car fled the scene. According to reports, the car was proceeding North at a fast rate when it struck down the young men, who were crossing the the # 55 Public Road at the time.

News Room was told that Sahai fell on the road, while Jairam was flung on top of motor car, HC # 4228 which was parked on the western side of the road. Both pedestrians were picked up in an unconscious state by public spirited citizens and rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital.

News Room was told that Sahai was pronounced dead on arrival, while Jairam was treated and transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital. Investigations are ongoing.
