Police recover bicycle of missing Berbice boy

The police in ‘B’ Division moments ago recovered the bicycle belonging to the 12-year-old who went missing on Sunday, September 17.

The bicycle was found in the river behind the home of one of the men, who is in police custody, assisting with investigation. The men are accused of molesting young boys in the area.

The missing child has been identified as Leonard Archibald of Brothers Village, East Bank Berbice. News Room understands that the teen was last seen on Sunday riding a bicycle on the Sisters Public Road.

Speaking with reporters at the scene, Police Commander, Linden Alves disclosed that ranks from his division along with residents from the area executed a search in the yard where the two suspects reside.

He added that after coming up empty handed, ranks extended their search to the river which is several feet away from the house and it was there that the bicycle was discovered after ranks and residents searched the river bank using a cast net.

According to the Commander, following the discovery of the bicycle, he has since activated the marine patrol which will comb the river from New Amsterdam to Brothers village in an effort to locate the missing child.

News Room understands that residents heard loud screams from a child on Sunday but did not take it seriously. This was only reported to the police yesterday.

The News Room was told that the two suspects remain in police custody and have since denied any knowledge about the whereabouts of the child.
