Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo led a delegation comprised of officials from the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) and members of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) in Region Five to Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, to assess the damage residents suffered from a freak storm on Monday last, which left several houses without roofs.

One of those houses collapsed in the process, forcing the occupants to seek refuge at their neighbours’ house. Nagamootoo committed to ensuring that the roofs are replaced and that the collapsed house is repaired.

The Prime Minister told reporters that while some persons have already begun repairs to their homes, the CDC and the office of the REO in Region Five are making efforts to render voluntary assistance.

The Prime Minister also disclosed that he is satisfied with the willingness of the councillors of the RDC to help the affected families.

Head of the CDC, Retired Colonel Chabilall Ramsarup said that talks are ongoing with the Private Sector Commission to procure lumber and zinc sheets which will be transported to the RDC, which will then be given to the affected residents.
