Main suspect in murder of Berbice boy attempts to rape accomplice in lock-up

The main suspect in the alleged rape and murder of 12-year-old Leonard Archibald, reportedly attempted to rape his accomplice, Nicholas Christopher in a cell they shared.

The relatives of Christopher told News Room that he has since requested to be moved to another cell following the rape attempt by the main suspect, Hillary Edwards. News Room subsequently learnt that Christopher has been relocated as the two men remain in custody pending charges.

Young Archibald went missing on September 17 after he left home to pick up two of his sisters from a birthday party in a nearby village. However, he never returned home and was last spotted riding a bicycle on the Sisters Village Public Road.

Edwards is well known within the community for molesting young boys. Both Edwards and Christopher have since reportedly confessed to the brutal crime. As such, police found the young man’s bicycle in the Berbice river behind the house of the two accused. Archibald’s badly decomposed body was found on Saturday, September 23 at Korthberaadt River which is located about three miles from Brothers Village, East Bank Berbice.

Edwards reportedly told detectives that he dumped the body in the river after Archibald became unconscious during the rape. Christopher reportedly told detectives that he heard screams coming from the house but did not know the young man was being raped; he however admitted to disposing of the bicycle.
