    Action in the South Essequibo Cricket Committee/Golden Fleece Rice Investment 40-over competition got underway recently with two of the scheduled four matches.

    At Hibernia, the home team racked up 344 from 32.2 overs against Top Shatters. Gangabehari Ramdahnie struck a stroke-filled 190, which included 16 sixes and 15 fours. Ameri Mohamed made 56. For Top Shatters, A. Salim 2-45 and R. Ally 2-57 were the most successful bowlers.

    In reply, Top Shatters were bowled out for 225 in 35.4 overs. Raymond Ally topscored with 70 and Imran Wahaab made 46. Bowling for Hibernia, Gobin Chandricka bagged 3-41 and Ramdahnie 2-31.

    At Pomona, host Rising Stars won the toss and took first strike against South Under-19s, and were dismissed for 127 in 33 overs.

    Kurty Jones (26), Latchman Rohit (24) and Rohan Ramdass (19) were the leading scorers, while Shane Wong had 4-28, Jowel Fortune 2-24 and Sherland Anthony 2-29.  

    In reply, South Under-19s were bowled out for 87 with Orlando Jailall making 20, S. Williams 21 and Shane Wong 16. Bowling for Rising Stars, 13-year-old Mavindra Dindyal took 5-18, while Ottis Robert took 2-24 and Andy Ramnarine 2-12.  

    The other two games were abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain. The competition was slated to continue this weekend with another four matches, slated for Hibernia, Pomona, NOC and Affiance.
