Johnson to lead Guyana in Antigua Independence Tri-Nation T20

Guyana’s successful First-Class captain Leon Johnson has been appointed skipper of the national T20 team to participate in the second annual Antigua Independence Tri-Nation T20 tournament from October 6-14 on the island. Guyana, Jamaica and hosts Antigua will be competing in the tournament.

According to a release from the Guyana Cricket Board, “The team consists of a mixture of contracted Franchise and Academy players along with other senior players and will be led by Leon Johnson (Captain) and Veerasammy Permaul (Vice-Captain).”

The 15-man squad includes seven players who recently played in the Hero Caribbean Premier League. They are Guyana Amazon Warriors quartet Permaul, Gajanand Singh, Keemo Paul and Steven Jacobs; Jamaica Tallawahs’ Jonathon Foo, Trinbago Knight Riders’ Ronsford Beaton, and Barbados Tridents’ Christopher Barnwell.

SQUAD: Robin Bacchus, Gajanand Singh, Leon Johnson, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Jonathan Foo, Anthony Bramble, Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford, Veerasammy Permaul, Steven Jacobs, Ronsford Beaton, Romario Shepherd, Ricardo Adams, Christopher Barnwell and Ramaal Lewis.

Players are asked to report to the Everest Cricket ground on Tuesday (September 26) for training from 09:00h.
