New Amsterdam man charged with wife’s murder
A 58-year-old man of Smithfield, New Amsterdam appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, charged with the murder of his 56-year-old wife, Janet Tahal.
Randolph Tahal was not required to plead to the charge, which alleged that between September 17 and 19, 2017 he murdered the woman with a piece of wood. The court heard that the accused and his wife had a heated argument when he armed himself with a piece of wood and dealt the woman several lashes to the head.
A friend, who visited the woman’s home, discovered her bleeding from the nose and mouth and rushed her to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. She was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she died while receiving treatment on September 19.
A post-mortem examination was conducted on the body and this prompted the police to institute a murder charge against the suspect. He was remanded to prison and s expected to return to court on October 27, 2017.
