The two suspects, who reportedly confessed to sodomising and then dumping the body of 12-year-old Leonard Archibald in the Berbice River, appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court Wednesday, charged with murder.
Twenty-nine – year old Hillary Edwards and 19-year-old Nicholas Christopher, both of Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice, were not required to plead to the charge. Christopher was represented by Attorney Gossai while Edwards did not have legal representation. They were remanded to prison until December 08, 2017.
It is alleged that between September 17 and September 23, 2017, they murdered Archibald at Sisters Village. According to reports, the child was riding his bicycle along the Sisters Public Road at about 17:30hrs when he was approached by Edwards who took him into his home and molested him.
News Room was told that after the child became unresponsive, Edwards dumped his body in the Berbice River which is located several feet behind the home where the rape took place.
However, the News Room was told that Christopher was underneath the house when he heard noise in the upper flat but he did not take it seriously. It was the following day that he was then ordered to dump the child’s bicycle in the Berbice river.
Archibald’s badly decomposed body was found on Sunday, September 23 at Korthberaadt River which is located about three miles from Brothers Village, East Bank Berbice. He was laid to rest on Tuesday, September 26.
