Drunk GRA employee arrested after discharging weapon

An Enforcement Officer, Riaz Ally, attached to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has been arrested after he allegedly discharged his Glock 17 automatic pistol multiple times, in public view, at the New Thriving Restaurant on Sandy Babb Street, Kitty early Friday morning.

A police statement said his weapon, which had 13 live rounds remaining in its magazine, has been lodged. According to a police report, at about 01:45hrs, a policeman on a motorcycle patrol caught the 35-year-old resident of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, who was in the company of others imbibing, discharging rounds into the air. News Room understands that the man discharged three rounds into the air.

The policeman promptly detained him at Kitty Police Station and took possession of the weapon. He was then taken to the CID Headquarters where it was discovered that he is a licensed firearm holder.
