A 43-year-old woman was robbed of $500,000 at her Diamond Housing Scheme home at approximately 12:00hrs Friday.
The News Room was told that the woman had just withdrawn the money from the Republic Bank branch in Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara when two men in a white Premio motorcar drove up to her as she was entering her yard and held her at gunpoint. The men managed to take her bag in which the money was kept along with her personal documents.
The woman’s daughter, who spoke to the News Room, is alleging that someone may have trailed her mother from the bank. She also related that one of the men attempted to take her iPhone but she grabbed it, prompting the second suspect to tell him to leave her alone.
The News Room also contacted Commander of ‘A’ Division, Marlon Chapman who confirmed that a report was made and police officers are on the ground conducting their investigations.
