SWAT Commander robbed of vehicle, gun

Deputy Superintendent Lonsdale Withrite was robbed of his vehicle and firearm in the vicinity of the Kitty Seawall on Monday evening.
Withrite, who is the Officer in Charge of the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) reported the robbery just after 22:00hrs. The News Room was informed that the SWAT Leader’s weapon and computer were also in the car when the carjackers made off with it.
It is unclear whether the weapon was issued to him by the Guyana Police Force or if it belongs to him personally.
Shortly after the robbery, the vehicle was found abandoned in the vicinity of Ogle, East Coast Demerara. The details surrounding the robbery are unclear at this point and the News Room was unable to confirm whether a radio set, which is usually carried by the officer, is missing.
The radio sets issued by the force are said to be very critical to the operations of the police and could pose a serious national security risk if they end up in the hands of criminals.
