Police yet to make arrest in robbery of SWAT Commander

The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into the circumstances which led to the armed robbery of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Lonsdale Withrite, the Officer-in-Command of SWAT Unit.

A statement from the police force on Wednesday [two days after the robbery], revealed that Withrite was allegedly robbed at gunpoint of a Service Pistol, and a magazine containing sixteen (16) live rounds, about 21:00hrs on Monday, October 02, 2017 while on the Industry Seawall, East Coast Demerara in company of a female.

According to the police statement, the Officer alleged that he was pounced on by three suspects, one of whom discharge two rounds and relieved him of his motorcar in which the firearm and ammunition were in.

“Swift responses from several units of the Guyana Police Force led to the recovery of his motorcar on the Ogle Airstrip Road, East Coast Demerara a few hours after.”

No one has yet been arrested.
