The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into the escape of Dellon Blake, who managed to scale a fence at the Lusignan Prison in the wee hours of Wednesday, October 4.

According to a statement from the police force, preliminary investigations revealed that Blake, who was on remand for the offence of rape, used his bedsheet and wooden pallets to help himself over the fence on the north western side “in full view of Police Ranks performing duties in the guard hut tower, overlooking the new holding facility at the Prison, which area is well illuminated.”

The Force noted that a Detective Superintendent of Police has been appointed to conduct this investigation. Blake, 35, was admitted to the prison on July 24, 2017. Director of Prisons (ag), Gladwin Samuels said that the escapee has a ‘tear drop’ tattoo on the left side of his face and “cuts cabbage for a living.”

According to the Prison Director, he was informed on Wednesday morning that the prisoner escaped from Holding Bay 2 of the prison.
