Two men, who allegedly broke into the Chicka D restaurant on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown and reportedly stole over $25M in items were remanded to prison on Monday by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Shawn Clark, 45 and Gary Grant, 41, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where they were jointly charged with break and enter with larceny.

The duo denied that on September 25 and October 5, 2017, at Vlissengen Road, they broke and entered the Chicka’D restaurant and stole an ice cream machine and other items totalling $25.2M property of Deonarine Singh.

Clark was charged separately with assaulting a police officer and behaving disorderly on October 6, 2017, at Vlissengen Road. According to reports, on October 6 the two defendants were caught by police in Chicka’D restaurant removing items.

The restaurant was closed down a few months ago with equipment still inside. The court heard that when an officer attempted to arrest Clark, he pulled out a knife and advanced towards the cop. It is alleged that he cuffed the officer to the eye and made good his escape but was later apprehend by public-spirited persons.

Grant, however, turned himself over to the police. Police prosecutor, Adoni Innis objected to the duo being released on bail on the grounds that they have no fixed place of abode.

Magistrate Latchman remanded the duo on the break and enter charge and granted $60,000 bail on the two other charges. The matters were adjourned to October 30, 2017.
