Win for Upper Corentyne; West Demerara, Lower Corentyne play to draw
Upper Corentyne defeated East Bank by 87 runs, while Lower Corentyne and West Demerara played to a draw on Sunday when the sixth round of the Jaguars Franchise League continued. In the other game, which is scheduled to finish on Monday, East Coast lead Essequibo by 82 runs with six wickets in hand.
Among the top performers were Kandasammy Surujnarine (150) for Upper Corentyne against East Bank; Akshaya Persaud (101*) for West Demerara against Lower Corentyne; Ronaldo Ali Mohamed (96) for East Bank against Upper Corentyne; and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (91) for Essequibo against East Coast.
Upper Corentyne declared on 291-3, for a hefty lead of 313 over East Bank. Kandasammy Surujnarine top scored with 150 off 191 balls, Balchand Baldeo made 79 and Rajiv Ivan 31.
East Bank, needing 314 for victory, made 227 all out after 67.1 overs. Ronaldo Ali Mohamed top scored with 96 off 90 balls, while Daniel Barker added 31 and Colin Benn 30. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Clinton Pestano and Eon Hooper picked up 2-23 and 2-53 respectively, while Shawn Pereira had 3-72.
Over at Young Warriors, West Demerara earned a draw against Lower Corentyne. Lower Corentyne, resuming on 146-8, made 153 with Alex Algoo making 68 not out. West Demerara then reached 206-4 after 80 overs. Akshaya Persaud produced 101 not out, while Tevin Imlach scored 60.
In the second day’s play at Tuschen, Essequibo in their first innings scored 258 all out in response to East Coast’s 289. Shivnarine Chanderpaul made 91 and Vijai Surujpaul 58, as Bashkar Yadram took 3-52 and Royston Simon 2-40. East Coast reached 51-4 by the close with Kevin Gordon claiming 2-10.
