Several killed in Corentyne accident

At least five persons have reportedly died in a horrific accident on the Number 59 Village Public Road, Corentyne.

News Room understands that a motorcar with some five persons collided with a paddy laden truck. A child is said to be among the casualties. 

According to information received, the car PPP 3394 was heading in the direction of Skeldon while the truck was heading in opposite direction when they collided; the truck toppled before coming to a halt.

Eyewitnesses say two persons were flung from the car and at least three are pinned inside. Efforts are being made to cut the car open in order to retrieve the bodies. The driver of the truck was rushed to the hospital; his condition is unknown. The accident occurred just after 13:00hrs today.

News Room was subsequently informed that the five persons in the car were heading to the Number 63 beach when the accident occurred; reports indicate that they are from Bel Air, Georgetown.
