50-Y-0 killed in early morning accident

An early morning accident on the Land of Canaan Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) has resulted in the death of 50-year-old Joseph Harmon, of Relief Public Road, EBD.

According to a police release, the accident occurred at approximately 06:45hrs on Wednesday. It was noted that Harmon exited minibus BSS 8672 to accommodate another passenger when a truck (GRR 9592) lost control and crashed into him.

The impact also caused the minibus to slam into a motorcar (PTT 9066), which was traveling in the opposite direction. Harmon was standing on the pavement when the truck crashed into him; he died at the scene of the accident and his body remained on the road for some time.

According to the police release, the truck was being driven by a 28-year-old man and the minibus had a 32-year-old driver; they were both heading in a northern direction.

Breathalyzer tests were administered on the drivers and no alcohol was found.  The drivers are in custody assisting in this investigation.
