Businessman, friend remanded on gun charges

Two men appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with the illegal possession of a .38 revolver and the illegal possession of six matching rounds while not being the holder of firearm licenses.

Mark Young, a 39-year-old businessman of Duncan Street, Kitty and Jamal Henry, a 22-year-old mason of Diamond, East Bank Demerara both denied the two joint charges.

According to reports, on October 11, 2017, at Queens Street, Kitty, the two men were busted by police in a room at a Kitty hotel with a bag containing the said firearm on top the bed.

Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers told the court that the men blamed each other for the gun when they were arrested. They were remanded until November 3, 2017.
