After spending almost five months on remand, 26-year-old taxi driver, Keon Aaron was on Tuesday freed of a drug trafficking charged.

The case was discharged against him by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. Aaron was on trial for trafficking 1.24 kilograms of cocaine on June 17, 2017, at Stabroek Market Square, Georgetown.

The Magistrate ruled that police prosecutor, Shawn Gonsalves failed to prove his case and found Aaron not guilty of the charge. Aaron his defence told the court that he would ply his trade at the Stabroek Market Square and on the day in question, two men requested his service.

He further added that he took a rice bag from the man and placed it in his car’s trunk when moments later, a police detective arrested him and the two men. The rice bag was searched and a black plastic bag containing cocaine was found inside.
