Guyana finished fourth in the Men’s division of the Pan Am Indoor Hockey Cup on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with a 5-2 loss to Canada.

Guyana had a magnificent start to the game to the jubilation of the massive crowd in attendance when Robert France blasted a shot into the back of the net in the first minute for the tournament’s fastest goal.

However, similar to their female counterparts, the Men could not build on their early momentum as Canda came charging back with back-to-back goals from Jonathan Roberts and Devohn Noronha Teixeira in the eighth and 18th minutes respectively.

However, Guyana would equalise just before the half (19th minute) through a wonderful strike from Andrew Stewart.  The second half was where Guyana simply could not match the intensity of their Canadian opponents as the men from North America went onto score three goals on the trot.

Gurtel Dhaliwal put the Canadians ahead in the 29th minute, while Roberts returned to score two straight in the 34th and 40th for a hat-trick that ended the tournament for the Canadians with a bronze medal.
