Teen shot by businessman during alleged attempted robbery

A 17-year-old male of ‘D’ Field Sophia, Georgetown was on Sunday night shot by a 40-year-old businessman who he allegedly attempted to rob.

According to a police release, the city businessman – who is a licensed firearm holder – had stopped on the Turkeyen Public Road, East Coast Demerara, after his vehicle developed mechanical problems when he was pounced on by the suspect.

In response, the man whipped out his firearm and shot the teen to the left thigh.

The suspect was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he is receiving treatment under guard.

The incident occurred at about 21:30hrs.

Investigation is in progress.
