Nizam Hassan has resumed duties as General Manager of the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB), after the charge of conspiracy to procure money under false pretense was dismissed against him.

The charge was dismissed against Hassan and his co-accused, Felecia De Souza-Madramootoo, on Friday last.

After the charges were dismissed, Hassan confirmed that he was subsequently contacted by the GRDB to resume his position.  He told News Room that he resumed work on Tuesday. He was sent on leave in November 2016 after he was charged and placed on $250,000 bail.

The duo was on trial for conspiracy to procure money by paying themselves under false presence in relation to the approval of payments for low-grade rehabilitation works done on the New GMC building at Robb Street, Georgetown, between October 28, 2010, and April 25, 2012. Hassan formerly served as General Manager of the New GMC.

The matter was dismissed by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan who ruled that the Prosecutor, Inspector Neville Jeffers failed to prove his case, citing inconsistency of the evidence provided by several witnesses who testified during the trial.
