A 33-year-old man, who is wanted in three police divisions, was on Thursday charged with the armed robbery committed on Digicel outlet at Sheriff Street, Georgetown in September.

Lennox Kurt of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on two counts of armed robbery. Particulars of the first charge alleged that on September 20, 2017, at Sherrif Street, Georgetown while being in the company of others and armed with guns, he robbed Diana Andrews of a Samsung 7 Edge valued $200,000 along with other items totalling $1.4M property of Digicel (Cellular Planet).

It is further alleged that he and the others robbed Andrews of her Samsung J3 cell phone valued $30,000. Kurt was not required to plead to the charges after Prosecutor, Inspector Arwin Moore requested that the matter remain indictable.

The court heard that there is surveillance footage from the store’s CCTV camera, which displayed the identity of Kurt, who was not wearing a mask at the time.

Moore further added that Kurt is wanted by the police in A, C and D Division for similar crimes. The Chief Magistrate remanded Kurt until November 17 on the grounds of public safety.

According to reports, on the day in question, gunmen raided the Digicel outlet and held the lone female employee at gunpoint and demanded that she hand over cash and electronics from the store.
