Over 67kg cocaine found in rice destined for Belgium, Broker in custody

Over 67 kilograms of suspected cocaine were found concealed randomly in sealed 45kg bags of rice destined for export to Belgium, the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) said Monday.

The bust was made on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the John Fernandes Wharf, Water Street and the Broker responsible for the shipment has been taken into custody.

According to CANU, the raid at the wharf commenced on Friday and the discovery of the suspected drugs was made the next day just before midday.

The exercise saw the unloading and searching of five rice filled twenty-foot containers which were scheduled to leave Guyana on Friday evening.
