Two gunmen nabbed in Diamond after attempting to hijack taxi 

Police Monday evening caught two gunmen in 6th Avenue, Diamond, East Bank Demerara as they attempted to hijack a taxi. They had in their possession a handgun and live rounds when caught.

The same men were reportedly held two weeks ago by the police for stealing a motorbike.

News Room understands that the two reportedly hired a taxi and gave the driver directions to 6th Avenue and once they reached a certain point, they held the driver at gunpoint and attempted to hijack the car. The driver reportedly tried to fight them off and Police patrolling the area at the time approached.

At this point, the gunmen tried to escape. They ran to the back fence of a resident’s house but the barking dogs chased them away and as they fled into an open lot, they were nabbed by the Police.  The News Room has been unable to identify the men thus far.
