The Guyana Police Force has released wanted bulletins for two Trinidadian nationals wanted for questioning in relation to the fake kidnapping of 33-year-old Sawak Maraj, also a Trinidadian national.

The police said the two; Anil Antonio Mahabir and Vejhy Ramdass are wanted for questioning in relation to Conspiracy to Commit a Felony which occurred on October 27, 2017 at the Madewini Resort, Timehri, East Bank Demerara.

Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the men is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 226-1389, 227-2128, 226-7065, 225-2227, 225-0575, 911 or the nearest police station.

All information will be treated with the strictest confidence.

Maraj was earlier on Tuesday remanded to prison until November 16, 2017, after he allegedly staged his own kidnapping in Guyana and demanded US$700,000 in ransom from his family in Trinidad. The man who claims he is a Chemical Engineer of Lot 131 Sandyways Fairways Marabal, Trinidad and Tobago appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and denied the charges of giving the police wrong information and conspiracy to commit a felony.

According to reports, on the day in question, relatives of the Maraj were contacted by unknown persons via phone who indicated that their son was in custody in Guyana and that a sum of money was later demanded for his release.
