A Berbice mother is pleading for justice after her 14-year-old daughter and another teen were allegedly drugged and raped by two men on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
Police in the Berbice region have failed to arrest the suspects; in fact, it was only after the News Room inquired that the Divisional Commander became aware that a report was made at a local Police station days ago.
According to the woman, at about 10:30hrs on the day in question, she was at the market plying her trade when she received a telephone call from the head teacher of the school her daughter attends and was told that the teen was asked to go home after being involved in an altercation.
However, the teen never returned home until the following day and it was observed that she had marks on her body which suggested that she was raped.
The teen said that after she left school, she and a friend were picked up by two men who took them to a rum shop and encouraged them to drink alcohol.
The News Room was told that both teens were then taken to a house where the men raped them.
The mother related that her daughter was taken to the hospital and it was confirmed that she was raped.
She added that the matter was reported to a local Police station but no arrests have been made.
When contacted, Commander of ‘B’ Division, Linden Alves disclosed that he was not aware of the issue and asked for some time to find out.
He later told the News Room that he made enquiries and found out that a report was indeed made and that action will be taken against the ranks who failed to provide him with the information since Wednesday (November 01, 2017).
News Room understands that both suspects managed to have the matter settled between the other teen and her parents.
Investigations are ongoing.
