A Bartica Boat Operator was on Thursday charged and remanded to prison for allegedly trafficking four women, who are Venezuelan nationals.

Kenneth Simons appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where the matter was held in-camera.

It is alleged that on November 03, 2017 at Kumu Backdam, Bartica, Simons recruited, transported and harboured four women for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

Simons denied the allegation and was remanded to prison until November 15, 2017. The matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.

Reports indicate that the women told Police that Simons paid their travel expenses to Guyana but when they arrived the man commanded them to engage in “sex work” to repay him.
