Leeward Islands Hurricanes dropped anchor on day one against Guyana Jaguars, scoring at just over two runs per over when round three action of the Professional Cricket League Four-day competition got underway at Warner Park, St. Kitts.

Skipper Leon Johnson called correctly at the toss and elected to field first, but his bowlers had little success as Hurricanes inched to 181-1 in 90 overs, a rate of 2.01 runs per over.

Montcin Hodge and Chesney Hughes added 58 in 31 overs, before Romario Shepherd trapped the latter for 31 off 87 balls (5x4s).

Hodge and West Indies Under-19 player Keacy Carty then proceeded to wear the Jaguars bowlers down, adding 123 unbroken for the second wicket by the close. The partnership has so far spanned 361 balls.

Hodge is not out on 72 off 274 balls (9x4s), while Carty is unbeaten on 61 off 185 deliveries (3x4s, 1×6).
