A 35-year-old pastor, who was detained by police on Thursday for allegedly raping a church member, has been counselling the victim for some three years before he reportedly committed the act.
According to a police release, initial investigations found that the 22-year-old unemployed woman of La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was invited to the man’s residence at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, for dinner when he allegedly committed the act.
The incident occurred in October 2017. The pastor operates a church in Parfaite Harmonie, WBD.
News Room previously reported that during a visit to the man’s home, persons in the area spoke of several women visiting the premises from time to time.
It was also reported that other women of the church have said that the Pastor would encourage them to do strange things under the pretext that it was the Lord’s will. The pastor is being held at the Diamond Police Station.
