Taxi Driver allegedly caught with over 17 pounds ‘ganja’

A 38-year-old taxi driver who was recently intercepted and busted by police with over 17 pounds of cannabis in his car along Friendship, East Bank Demerara was on Friday charged and remanded to prison.

Andre Benjamin of Annandale, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and denied the drug trafficking charge. It is alleged that on November 7, 2017, at Friendship, Benjamin had 8.05 kilograms of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor, Arwin Moore opposed to bail and cited the seriousness of the charge. As such, Benjamin was remanded until December 11, 2017. According to reports, the police acted on intelligence, stopped and searched Benjamin’s car, when they reportedly found the illegal substance.
