The owner of EZEE Runnings Taxi Service was on Tuesday remanded to prison by Magistrate Fabayo Azore after he was charged with two narcotics-related offences.

Kapildea Ramsawak, 34 of Campbellville, Georgetown denied that on November 10, 2017, at Lodge he had 496 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Ramsawak further denied that on the same day at the same location, he had 2.6 grams of ecstasy in his possession. The Police Prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offences.

The court heard that on the day in question at about 13:00hrs ranks from the police narcotics branch raided a shop in the Lodge area during which they observed Ramsawak running from the shop. He was caught and arrested after the alleged cannabis was found in his possession.

The court heard that Ramsawak was then taken to his Campbellville home and the ecstasy was found in his bedroom. According to the Prosecutor, the man told the ranks that he uses the ecstasy for “sexual purposes.”

However, his lawyer George Thomas refuted the allegations by the Prosecution and told the Court that Ramsawak was buying a soft drink at the shop at the same time that the police arrived to conduct their search.

According to the lawyer, it was the shopkeeper who ran away and the police decided to pin the charge on his client. The Magistrate, however, remanded Ramsawak for the trafficking of cannabis charge and granted him $25,000 for the possession of the ecstasy. The case was adjourned to November 15, 2017.
