A 53-year-old man, who stole almost $180,000 worth in clothing from a businesswoman, was on Wednesday sentenced to six months imprisonment.

Rendrick Gary of Leopold Street, Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to the offence of larceny.

Particulars of the charge read that on August 6, 2017, at Sussex Street, Charlestown Gray and another person stole a quantity of ladies and gents clothing valued $176,000 from Barba Nedd.

“The other man get away with more things than me… all I get was a boots, shirt and a pants,” Gary told the court.

Police Prosecutor, Simon Payne told the court that on the day in question, Gary and his accomplice went into the woman’s store under the pretence of shopping. The men reportedly picked out some particular pricy items and assured the woman that they had a large sum of money.

Nedd, while tending to their needs, went into her storeroom from more clothing and upon her return, she observed when the men stuffed the clothing into a bag and escaped in a car.

Gary, who was unrepresented, begged Nedd for a second chance and expressed his willingness to repay her.

However, Nedd was not mindful of his pleas and told the court that the accused had done the same thing to several businesses in Georgetown.
