Priyanna Ramdhani completes stint in Suriname

Guyana and Caribbean Ladies Badminton champion Priyanna Ramdhani recently concluded the Pan American Badminton Federation Young Talents Camp 2017, which was held from November 9-15, in Paramaribo, Suriname.

She also participated in the Suriname Open International Championship, held at the Ismay Van Wilgen Sports Hall from November 16-18.

The Young Talents Camp was conducted twice daily under the direction of the Pan American Coach, Martijn van Dooremlen, to improve her game technically and tactically. Priyanna was selected by the Pan Am Development Director following her consistence performances on the international circuit.

“Priyanna then participated in the Suriname Open Seniors International Championship, which was held at the Ismay Van Wilgen Sports Hall in Paramaribo, Suriname, from November 16-18, 2017. As part of the Young Talents Camp all participants had to play in this tournament not only to get higher world ranking points, but to also measure their training methods for future developments,” the Guyana Badminton Association said in a release.

In the Ladies Singles, Priyanna, whose luck of the draw was against her and had to play the number one seeded player in the tournament, lost to Fernanda Saponara Rivva of Peru 21-14, 21-8 in round two. 

In the Ladies Doubles, she teamed up with Chequeda De Boulet of Trinidad to defeat Faith Sariman and Chaista Somemodipoero of Suriname in round two 21-11, 21-13 to reach the quarter-finals, where they lost to Shemara Lindveld and Santusha Ramzan of Suriname 21-15, 21-11. 

In the Mixed Doubles, she partnered with Danney Chen of Suriname and lost in an exciting three-setter to Jonathan Thorpe and Tamisha Williams of Barbados in round two 23-21, 9-21, 12-21.
