Magnum Tonic Wine will bring its own vibes to the futsal arena with its inaugural tournament, set to commence on December 1 at the National Gymnasium. The ‘Tek Charge’ Futsal Christmas Classic will give 32 grassroot teams a chance to win up to $500,000 in cash prizes.
At the launch on Friday at Windjammer Hotel, Brand Manager of Ansa McAl Trading, Edison Jefford, highlighted that the tournament is one that will aid in the development of “grass root” sports and athletes while bringing a promotional flavour that has never been seen before.
There will also be a number of giveaways for fans at the games. Jefford also gave one of the main reasons for hosting the tournament, which is expected to be an annual event.
“This tournament will definitely be a great one and will serve as an official launch of Magnum to urban society; as you know Magnum is associated with dancehall and we will bring that energy and vibe to the tournament.
“The brand also promotes sexiness, for want of a better term, and we hope to give that experience to fans with different events we have planned that will include girls coming from Jamaica as part of another promotion for the Magnum brand,” Jefford noted.
Meanwhile, Director of Sport Christopher Jones endorsed the tournament and praised Ansa McAl Trading for the initiative that he sees benefitting urban youth around this time of the year by allowing them to earn cash.
The tournament will have three nights of knockout action before having a group stage of four groups with four teams each, followed by the quarter-final round. Matches will start on each playing night at 19:00h with top sides in the futsal arena expected to participate.
