3 years jail for 21 grams of marijuana

A 25-year-old Construction Worker was sentenced to three years jail by Magistrate Judy Latchman after pleading guilty to a drug trafficking charge.

Satifa Joseph confessed that on November 16, 2017, at America Street, Georgetown he had 21 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking. Joseph did not have legal representation and refused to give the court any reason for which he had the drug in his possession.

Police Prosecutor, Shawn Gonsalves said on the day in question, ranks from the Brickdam Police Station were on foot patrol in the area, when they intercepted Joseph. They searched him and found the illegal drugs in his pants pocket.

In addition to the three years imprisonment, Joseph was also fined $30,000.
