Businessman, citizens disarm bandit
Brave and courageous actions by the victim of an attempted robbery and that of two public-spirited citizens on Friday resulted in the perpetrator being disarmed.
However, police said he managed to flee the scene on a waiting motorcycle. The firearm, a 9mm Ruger pistol with twelve live rounds, was handed over to the police who responded promptly.
According to a police report, a 46-year-old businessman was about to enter a store on South Road, Bourda at about 15:45hrs shortly after he dropped off a customer at a city bank.
The bandit, with firearm brandished, pounced and demanded that he handed over his money. Police said that a struggle ensued and the victim held onto the weapon while two members of the public went to his assistance during which the suspect was disarmed.
The suspects are currently being sought and investigations are progressing.
