Bandits shoot businessman, terrorise staff at Bobby’s General Store

Residents and shoppers in one of the busiest streets of Rose Hall Town on the Corentyne have been left in a state of shock after two armed men entered the Bobby’s General Store on Saturday afternoon and shot the owner twice before escaping.

According to a reliable police source, at about 15:45hrs, the police received information of an alleged robbery at the general store located at Rose Hall Town. It was reported that two armed men entered the store and asked the staff to lie face down before proceeding towards the owner, 47-year-old Rajendra Prasad and fired three shots in his direction.

One of the bullets grazed the side of his head while another is lodged in his abdomen. The News Room was told that the men escaped into the backlands.

The businessman was rushed to the Anamayah Memorial Hospital but due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital to undergo surgery.

 

News Room understands that the gunmen left empty handed. On March 9, 2017, a man who was arrested with a .38 revolver and five matching rounds at Hampshire Village on the Corentyne told police that he was on his way to rob and kill Prasad.

The suspect, Curtis Fraser had told the police that he was hired by a Jamaican national to kill the businessman in Rose Hall Town.

Investigation into the recent attack on the businessman is ongoing.
