Taxi driver shot, car stolen in D’Urban Backlands

A 46-year-old taxi driver was on Saturday afternoon shot to his upper right thigh and robbed of his silver grey Preimo bearing registration number, HC 6296 at D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown.

According to information received from the police, the taxi driver was plying his trade in front of Demico  House in Georgetown when he was approached by two females who hired him to go to D’ Urban Backlands.

The women allegedly lured the driver to a location at Mocha Road, D’Urban Backlands where they were expected to be joined by a male.

However, the police said the male whipped out a handgun and forced the driver out of the vehicle and entered said vehicle.

As the driver was in the process of fleeing from the perpetrators, the male suspect discharged several rounds in his direction and struck him once in the upper right thigh, the police said.

He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where his condition is listed as stable.

Investigators are currently in search of the suspects and the stolen vehicle.
