5-Y-O, Grandmother shot while sleeping

Police in ‘B’ Division are hunting for a male who allegedly shot a five-year-old girl and her 50-year-old grandmother at about 03:30hrs on Sunday.

According to the police, initial investigations revealed that Savitri Hassan, her husband and their granddaughter were asleep on a mattress on the floor of their home at Section B, Number 72 Village Corentyne, Berbice, when they were aroused by a loud explosion and the screaming of the child.

Upon investigating, they noticed a male “who is known,” fleeing the house.

It was then that the victim realized that she and the child were bleeding.

They were rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where thirteen pellets were removed from the child’s left leg and Hassan was treated for suspected gunshot injuries to her lower abdomen.

Investigation is ongoing.
