Fourteen-time champions North Georgetown (District 11), as is usually the case, got their regular jump start by winning the swimming championships on the second day of the National School Championships on Monday at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal.

North Georgetown ended on 422 points for the first place position, while defending champions Upper Demerara/Kwakwani finished second with 296.50 points.

South Georgetown (District 13) finished third on 237 points, while East Georgetown was fourth on 180.50 points. Rounding out the top five in the swimming championships was Cuyuni-Mazaruni (District 7), also known as Bartica, on 174 points.

Part of the action on Monday

Some of the standout performers for District 11 were Leon Seaton, Lian Winter, Amy Grant, Accalia Khan, Daniel Scott and Jeremy Sookram.

Team Manager of District 11, Mariska Williams, highlighted that she was “proud” of the team for bringing home the title that they have now won for over a decade.

However, Williams pinpointed that while it will be “tough” to hold on to the early lead, the team will not give up that easily. The attention will now turn to track and field at the Leonora synthetic facility over the next four days and North Georgetown will look to regain the title they lost two years ago.
