A Corentyne mother is not pleased about the way in which the court system dealt with a case, which left her son battling for his life, after he was stabbed by an angry 14-year-old female on November 15, 2017.

Sixteen- year – old Leonard Higgins, a Technical Institute student of Number 53 Village Corentyne, was stabbed to the abdomen by the teenager following an argument on the day in question. His mother, 49- year- old Jennifer Dos Santos, who is still very emotional about the incident, told reporters that the court system has failed her; she has no faith in the justice system.

In recounting the incident, the mother disclosed that she was at home when she received a telephone call at approximately 17:00hrs that her son was in a critical condition at the Skeldon Public Hospital.

She rushed to the hospital and found her son with his organs protruding. It was there she learned that her son was at the Number 50 gas station with friends, including the 14-year-old female when an argument ensued. It is alleged that her son slapped the teen after she reportedly cursed him.

It is further alleged that the young lady left the group and returned shortly after armed with a knife, which she used to stab Higgins.

The distressed mother said she is frustrated at the fact that the young lady is allowed to “roam free” while her son is battling for his life at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Dos Santos is still grieving over the death of another son, who was attacked and robbed by bandits in the interior a few months ago. She said that son was stabbed to death.

“I am feeling very sad because just few months ago I lose a son who get murder the same way and I didn’t get no justice for the child and now I’m looking that I need justice; because he has to now live like this all the days of his life, defecating through a bag,” the frustrated mother said.
