13 arrested in separate ‘ganja’ bust
Some 13 persons, including females, are in police custody following the discovery of large amounts of cannabis on Saturday, December 02, 2017.
Police detailed that at about 13:00hrs on Saturday, ranks searched a motor pickup at the 70 Km Police Checkpoint, Cuyuni River and found concealed in a spare wheel, three kilograms of compressed cannabis. The driver and six occupants inclusive of a male Brazilian national and a female Guyanese, have been arrested and assisting with the investigation.
In another case, police at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint arrested a 33-year-old resident of Kwakwani, Berbice River at about 15:00hrs on Saturday after he was found in possession of 1,654 grams of cannabis.
Additionally, police ranks who conducted a routine stop and search operation on the Fort Wellington Public Road about 20:20 hrs Saturday night, searched a hire car and found in excess of two and a half kilograms of cannabis concealed in the compartment section of the trunk.
Five persons, inclusive of a female, have been taken into custody and they are cooperating with investigators.
