Berbice man on the run after chopping wife in head

The police in Berbice are hunting for a man who lashed his wife about her body with a cutlass and then chopped her in the head on Tuesday, December 05, 2017.

The injured woman has been identified as 48-year-old Parbattie Madramootoo of Lot 445 Bush Lot Village, Corentyne Berbice. Her husband, 56-year-old Kareem Ramsingh is reportedly in hiding.

News Room understands that at about 19:30hrs, the woman’s daughter found her on the ground with the suspect standing over her with a cutlass.

Their 30-year-old son, Devanand Ramsingh told the News Room that he returned home from his farm and found his parents arguing under the house. He said he went upstairs and shortly after he heard his 26-year-old sister, Dhankumarie Ramsingh screaming.

He rushed downstairs and found his mother lying motionless on her back with a chop wound to the back of her neck, and his father with a cutlass in his hands.  Devanand rushed his mother to the Port Mourant Hospital where she was treated and transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital in a critical condition.

News Room understands that the man was under the influence of alcohol when he began arguing with his wife during which he dealt her two lashes about her body with the cutlass before chopping her to the head.

A police investigation is underway.
