Major Fire averted at Giftland Mall

A small fire erupted in a section of the Giftland Mall, located at Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara.

News Room understands that the fire was first observed at around 6:10hrs on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the back of the building, close to the parking lot.

Chairman of Giftland, Roy Beepat in a live interview on Facebook with a journalist said the security team at the building noticed fire emanating from the Royal Castle vent which is located in the upper flat of the Mall and contacted management. The security then entered the building and noticed the fire was in a Supervisor’s office attached to Royal Castle.

According to Mr. Beepat, the door to the office was broken and the fire was extinguished following which contact was made with Royal Castle.  Mr Beepat assured that the facility will be opened for normal shopping by 10:00hrs. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The management of Giftland plans to open its supermarket – FoodMaxx – on Sunday, December 10.
