Army officer struck down by drunk driver

A 22-year-old Army Lance Corporal remains in an unconscious state after being struck down by a minibus driver on the West Bank of Demerara public road at about 03:10h Sunday morning.

According to the police, the minibus driver, 31, of Schoonard, West Bank Demerara (WBD), who was found to be over the legal limit of alcohol, was proceeding at a fast rate when he struck down Marvin Dodson, of Cross Street, Alexander Village, Georgetown.

The incident occurred at Pouderoyen , WBD.

Police inquiries found that Dodson was standing on the road, in front of a popular nightclub  with a group of “party fans” when the bus, BTT 8922 proceeding on the same side of the road, collided with him.

He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was treated and transferred the Georgetown Public Hospital where he remains in the said state.

According to the police, the driver who stopped a short distance from the point of impact, was allegedly assaulted by a group of persons before being whisked away by the police to seek medical attention at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
