Cop kills cyclist in Rosignol accident
An off-duty Police Constable is under close arrest following the death of 43-year-old Daymon Barran of Lot 103 William Street, Rosignol, West Coast Berbice.
According to a police report, the accident occurred at approximately 18:50hrs on Saturday, December 09 on the Rosignol Public Road.
It was noted that cop, who is stationed at the Fort Wellington Police Station, was speeding south along the eastern carriageway in motor car, PWW 5999 when he collided with the rear of the man’s cycle.
As a result of the impact, Barran fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries; he was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital by the cop and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died at about 06:45h Sunday morning.
Police said that the cop was driving his personal vehicle; he was given a breathalyzer test and no alcohol was found in his system.
