Kwame McCoy, former Liaison Officer under the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) government and self-confessed death squad member Sean Hinds were on Monday found not guilty of throwing faeces on newspaper columnist, Freddie Kissoon.

However, PPP member, Jason Abdulla was found guilty of the offence and was sentenced to six-months jail. The decision was handed down by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Abdulla had given a detailed statement to the police in relation to the incident, but McCoy and Hinds did not. Attorney Latchmie Rahamat represented McCoy; Glen Hanoman appeared for Abdulla, while Hinds was represented by George Thomas.

Hanoman pleaded with the Magistrate to be lenient in her sentencing; Magistrate Latchman in her ruling emphasized the need to prevent similar crimes as she noted that the incident will forever be etched in the memory of the victim.

On May 24, 2010, at around 19:00hrs Kissoon had just emerged from Nigel’s Supermarket on Robb Street and already entered his vehicle when a man walked up to him and threw the faeces in his face. Kissoon managed to drive behind the perpetrator, who ran north along Light Street then west into North Road before jumping into a waiting white AT 192 Toyota Carina motorcar and escaped.

    Sean Hinds

Later, McCoy was identified as the mastermind behind the attack while Abdulla and Hinds were also fingered in the crime.
