House Speaker, Dr Barton Scotland has instructed members of the media to leave to the parliamentary chambers even as the lights, air-conditioning and Wi-Fi were switched off.

Clerk of the National Assembly, Sherlock Isaacs informed the press of the Speaker’s orders. According to Isaacs, the media is only there “at the invitation of the Speaker.”

However, President of the Guyana Press Association (GPA), Neil Marks, who is in Parliament, told News Room that the media will not leave the Chambers.

Members of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) as well as several government ministers remain in the chambers.

Among the government parliamentarians are Finance Minister, Winston Jordan; Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson; Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman and Government Chief Whip, Amna Ally.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has since invited the Leader of the Opposition Bharrat Jagdeo to a meeting in his Chambers.
